Our Team

Jonathan Wolff, AIF®

Jon is the president and founder of Lightship Wealth Strategies, Inc., an independent investment and financial services firm. He has more than 32 years of experience in the financial services industry and also serves as one of the wealth management directors in the office. Jon has focused on providing sophisticated wealth planning and investment management strategies to affluent families, executives, and small institutions. His goal is to use his broad experience to help his clients maintain their lifestyles throughout their retirement years, with thoughtful and prudent planning.

Jon grew up in Guilford, Connecticut, and graduated in 1983 from Muhlenberg College with a psychology degree. He started his career in the financial industry with Northwestern Mutual/Robert W. Baird, Inc., in 1983 in New York City. In 1987, he wanted to be closer to his roots in Hanover, New Hampshire, and Nantucket, Massachusetts, so he relocated to Boston. In 2006, he decided to move his team to start an independent firm called Lightship Wealth Strategies, Inc. His goal was to enhance its existing full services wealth management model and deliver it in a more highly personalized way. To become independent from any institution and to have a more intimate and less corporate "client experience" was the achieved objective.

As a company of independent financial professionals, the Lightship team works together to ensure the success and financial confidence for all their clients. They take an integrated approach to wealth management by offering a comprehensive array of financial services. They also work closely in tandem with your attorneys, accountants, and any of your other advisors to ensure that the suggestions you are given align with all of your goals.

Jon holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 9, 10, 63, and 65 securities registrations as an Investment Adviser Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®. He has his CLU® certification from The American College and has also earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) professional designation awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies.

Jon enjoys spending time with his wife, Chris, and their two college-aged children, Jack and Caroline. The Wolff family resides in Dover and Nantucket, Massachusetts, and they love to golf and snow and water ski, are avid readers, and try to spend as much time near the water as possible. Thanks to his Nantucket roots, Jon is also an accomplished scrimshaw and wood carver.

Jon does philanthropic work for various charities in the Boston area, including Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, Joselin Diabetes Center, the Nantucket Community Sailing Program, and the Jimmy Fund.

Recent Honors

Jon was named a Five StarSM Wealth Manager* for each of the past four years. He has also qualified for Commonwealth’s prestigious Leaders Conference and Chairman’s Retreat every consecutive year since joining Commonwealth in 2006. A Chairman’s Level advisor carries a distinction based on annual production attained by just 3 percent of advisors affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network.

We are often asked where we get the name Lightship from. The company name comes from Jon’s nautical history with the lightships on Nantucket. Lightships were anchored vessels moored near risky waters where lighthouses would prove impracticable. These ships were equipped with warning systems designed to alert passing vessels of any imminent risk. So the name reflects their desire to serve and protect their clients.

Jon Wolff is proud to have been recognized as a Chairman’s Level advisor for 2015—a distinction based on annual production attained by just over 3 percent of advisors affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network.

Each year, Commonwealth, the broker/dealer–RIA that helps us process investment transactions on your behalf, recognizes Chairman’s Level advisors by inviting them to an exclusive gathering of their peers, leading industry experts, and Commonwealth home office staff. Chairman’s Level advisors benefit from an intensive learning and networking experience designed to help them hone their expertise, share best practices, and provide ever-higher levels of service, education, and leadership to their clients.
